I’ve neglected my DC-area author friends for far too long. Here’s what they’ve been up to recently.
David Louis Edelman has just published the conclusion of his Jump 225 trilogy, Geosynchron. I know that some of you are the kind of folks who won’t read a trilogy until it’s completed and you know the end will be worthwhile. Well, it’s completed, and Geosynchron is an amazing wrap-up. The most surprising aspect of this last book was its high emotional level. This is hard SF with a shocking amount of heart.
Also just released is the mass-market edition of Jeri Smith-Ready’s Bad to the Bone, the second in her “best concept ever,” hyper-musically literate vampire DJ series. The most interesting development in the second book is how the vampire world has broadened. There’s now a deeper history and more contesting groups, which gives the author an ever-more intriguing backdrop for her romances. Also, Smith-Ready will have a YA book out in May, Shade.
Mindy Klasky has recently started a new series with “How Not to Make a Wish.” Klasky has reinvigorated the genie-in-the-bottle scenario, mostly by acknowledging that, after all the stories, neither of the players will approach problem of wishes in a completely naïve way. Also, I enjoyed the Midwestern setting.
Finally, I’m looking forward to David Williams’s final book in his trilogy, coming out this summer. Recent news items are making his future world look more and more likely. You got a few months to catch up with The Mirrored Heavens and The Burning Skies. Enjoy!

Thanks for the tip of the hat - *and* the reading recommendations. My to-be-read shelf will take a beating, but all in a good cause :-)
